Tondo come il mondo / Edition 2025-2026

The Great Giant Ocean

For the 16th edition of “Tondo come il mondo,” classes were invited to create a work featuring the Great Giant Ocean, a reminder of the importance of the oceans to life on our planet.
To create it, students brought objects reminding the sea and assembled them into collages or even three-dimensional sculptures.

Many of the works are the result of a careful and in-depth reflection, which, in addition to the focus on artistic creation, highlighted the students’ personal emotions.

Details of the work in a video

‘We created an explosion box shaped like a treasure chest: opening it reveals the wonder of the underwater world, populated by marine creatures created by children from papier-mâché. A small treasure that encompasses wonder, care, and imagination. To conclude our journey into the sea, we asked ourselves how to represent our giant ocean. The answer came naturally: build a real giant made of all the objects the children brought to class to tell the story of the sea. Our giant, however, is not just made of material things: it also holds our emotions and memories. Each child contributed a verse, a poem, a handful of sand, a made-up story.’

Poem: The Ocean we cannot see

From afar, the blue seems enchanting
Up close, the sea hides its tears.
Disturbing traces among the waves and foam
while life fades over time.
What was once clearhas been transformed
the breath of the world has become sick.
There is no time to stand by and watch:
now is the time to act and save.
